Roy Lichtenstein studied painting under Reginald Marsh at the Art Students League of New York after graduating from high school. He was drafted by the US Army during World War II. While stationed in France, he notably encountered the works of European masters and contemporary artists. After the war, he returned to America and received a MA in Fine Arts at Ohio State University. He is considered one of the foremost figures in establishing the Pop Art movement. He is notoriously known for his paintings and prints which reference popular culture and commercial art icons. His works are amongst several collections, which include The National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C, Museum Ludwig in Cologne, The Art Institute of Chicago in Illinois and other art institutions.
