- 1961 - a series of works devoted to an evocation of the city of Venice, displayed at his first one-man show in the USA at the Martha Jackson Gallery in New York- 1966 - Fontana presented at the 33rd Venice Biennale. In the space he worked alongside the architect Carlo Scarpa to create an oval maze-like environment, illuminated by a white light and containing white 'tagli' works. The work was greeted with great acclaim and won the Biennale prize.
- 1966 - Solo exhibition at the Walker Art Centre in Minneapolis
- 2019 - The Met Breuer is currently holding the first major exhibition of his work in the United States in over 40 years, "Lucio Fontana: On the Threshold" until April 14th 2019.
