In conversation with Vik Muniz and under his instructions, using materials and means provided in situ, the participants in this activity will be able to experiment with the method of composition of portraits from textures that the artist is developing in his most recent production.
Throughout the workshop, aspects of the author's work, his motivation and methodology will be known, which will allow access to his work through experience and a better understanding of the work from within the artistic process. Each participant may compose an image from a portrait of their choice.
The distinctive practice of Vik Muniz (Sao Paulo, 1961) is the exploration and delight in the instability that exists between artisanal art and mechanical reproduction, between the most sublime art and popular culture, between the ephemeral and the enduring, between the encoded and the recognizable. Muniz has participated in numerous solo exhibitions and museums such as the Banco de la República Art Museum (Bogotá), the Beyeler Foundation, PS 1 MoMA (NYC), the Pinacoteca do Estado de Sao Paulo (Sao Paulo), MACRO (Rome) , the Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin) and the Menil Collection (Houston) and his work is included in important private and public collections around the world.
He will direct this workshop from his studio in Salvador de Bahía (Brazil).
