达明安•赫斯特生于1965年布里斯托，从小在英格兰北部的利兹长大。1983-85年，在利兹雅各布克莱默艺术学院学习，1986-89年，就读于伦敦哥德史密斯学院。在赫斯特对追求生死概念的艺术追求中，他经常混淆艺术和科学之间的界限。他的作品有種類十分廣泛，包括油畫、素描、裝置和雕塑。赫斯特1994年，他获得柏林德国学术交流中心国际艺术家项目的提名，1995年获特纳奖。如今，达明安•赫斯特在英国格洛斯特郡生活和工作。是新一代英国艺术家的主要代表人物之一。他主导了90年代的英国艺术发展并享有很高的国际声誉。
