達明安•赫斯特生於1965年布里斯托，從小在英格蘭北部的利茲長大。 1983-85年，在利茲雅各布克萊默藝術學院學習，1986-89年，就讀於倫敦哥德史密斯學院。在赫斯特對追求生死概念的藝術追求中，他經常混淆藝術和科學之間的界限。他的作品有種類十分廣泛，包括油畫、素描、裝置和雕塑。赫斯特1994年，他獲得柏林德國學術交流中心國際藝術家項目的提名，1995年獲特納獎。如今，達明安•赫斯特在英國格洛斯特郡生活和工作。是新一代英國藝術家的主要代表人物之一。他主導了90年代的英國藝術發展並享有很高的國際聲譽。
